In the past week, mounting tensions between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Israel have escalated into full-scale military conflict. This war threatens not only the lives of Iranians and Israelis but also the safety of millions of innocent people throughout the region.

We are watching the expansion of this conflict with deep concern. The ongoing tragedy—from the deaths of hundreds of civilians and the destruction of critical infrastructure to the mass displacement of families—is a direct consequence of the Iranian regime’s crisis-driven policies. For over four decades, the regime has pushed the country toward ruin through repression at home, reckless foreign interventions, and secrecy surrounding its nuclear and missile programs.

The responsibility for this catastrophe lies squarely with a government that, instead of addressing the needs and voices of its people, has paved the way to this devastating war through systematic repression, imprisonment, torture, assassinations, and by imposing relentless burdens on society.

In response to these dire conditions, we urge people to form grassroots councils in both urban neighborhoods and rural communities. These local groups can coordinate humanitarian aid for those affected, support day laborers who have lost their livelihoods, and help ensure the fair distribution of essential goods and services. Ultimately, these popular organizations can also play a vital role in resisting repression and dismantling the regime in its entirety. Only through solidarity, mutual support, and a shared vision of hope can we build a free and humane future from the ashes of this crisis.

We firmly reject any attempt by foreign powers, in the aftermath of the regime’s collapse, to shape Iran’s political future—whether by endorsing a specific system of government or reviving any past model. The right to determine Iran’s future belongs solely to its people, through a truly democratic process.

Finally, we call on all political movements that share a commitment to building a free, democratic, and prosperous Iran to join forces in unity during these critical and challenging times.
